The vines are tied, the rosé’s bottled, andThe Shed is about to open for the season!
This spring has got us feelingoptimistic. We didn’t see any winter injury (huge relief), and the ground’s been dry, so the tractors are cruising and the crews are ahead.
We’re officially out of hibernation and this month’s got a lot going on.
🌱In the Vineyard: A Good Start
Pruning’s done. We’re tying now, which means layingthe fruiting canesdown on the wire so the vines are set up right for the year.
We leavetwo canes standingas insurance against late frost, but truthfully, it’s been bone dry from a winemaker’s point of view.
Sure, there’s been some rain, but not enough to slow down vineyard work. No rain delays. No mud. No soggy boots. That's a win!
Dry spring also means we can run thevertical disc. That chops up the top six inches of soil, lets oxygen in, and helps warm things up early. It doesn’t seem like much, but it wakes the vines up faster and gives us a head start.
We’re watching the calendar, but around here the last frost isn’t when the weatherman says: it’s when the last full moon hits (that’sMay 12this year, akathe Flower Moon.)
After that, it’s game on.

Special Drop: MW Pinot Noir Trio
We cracked into the new Pinot last month and couldn’t help ourselves. One bottle turned into three.
A quick side-by-side turned into a full-on deep dive, and it reminded us just how much a year can change a wine.
For May only, we’re offering aPinot Noir Trio: 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Same vineyard, same winemaking approach! Three totally different expressions of Niagara Pinot.
Here’s what you’re getting:
2021– Light and floral with rose petal, red apple, and a pinch of spice. Soft tannins, subtle white pepper, long finish. Elegant and easygoing.
2022– Riper and richer. Pomegranate, strawberry, and a hint of smoky cherrywood. Juicy with a warm spice lift and smooth, lingering finish.
2023– Savory and fresh. Cranberry, Chinese five-spice, and a little smoky meatiness. Bright acid, silky texture, and a tea-soft grip.
Note that the 2023 hasn't officially been released yet, so this is your first opportunity to try it!
Each vintage tells its own story. Same block. Same hands. Different year.
We hit theOntario Craft Wineevent last month, and it was great to see so many familiar faces back out again. Winter felt long so its been good to be among friends again.
