The sun’s sticking around a little longer, the ground’s thawing out, and it finally feels like spring is settling in for real this time.

This month’s box is all about evolution. Wines that have been quietly doing their thing. They are aging, developing, getting more layered, more complex and now...they’re ready to shine!

We’ve got a bottle that’s been hanging out since 2019 (yep, our OG label makes a cameo), a Pinot Noir from just across the road at my parents’ vineyard, and a Viognier that’s starting to show off the kind of texture and depth you only get with a bit of age.

🍷 2021 Pinot Noir – From Our Backyard (Literally)

What’s different about this one? It’s unfiltered, which adds a little extra weight and structure-makes it more ageable, more complex, and honestly, more interesting.

At three years in bottle, it’s right in the pocket. Still holding onto some of that fresh fruit, but dipping into the earthy, savoury notes Pinot fans chase.

Is it drinkable now? Absolutely. But if you’re patient, it’ll keep evolving for another few years.

Pair it with duck, roasted mushrooms, or a solo dinner with a proper glass and a good playlist.

🌺 2022 Viognier – Niagara’s Floral Side

Viognier’s been growing quietly in Niagara for a while now, and we’ve been loving what it brings to the table.

This 2022 has had time to stretch out, and now it’s showing floral aromatics, a bit of waxy texture, and that subtle citrus-candy flavour that comes with age.

If you’ve had Viognier from us before, this is the one that shows you where it’s headed. Not as sharp and tropical as our newer vintages but deeper, more floral, and layered in a way that makes you pause.

And while we just dropped the 2024 Viognier, we wanted to show you what a couple years of aging can really do.

Try pairing it with some spicy Thai, creamy cheeses, or anything with a little heat and sweetness.

🦇 2019 Cabernet Franc – The OG, Back for a Victory Lap

What you’re drinking now is a fully settled, beautifully balanced Franc.

Cool vintage, high acidity, and hand-picked fruit that was thinned and cold-soaked for max extraction. What does that mean for you? Structure, spice, and that telltale Niagara anise character.

This wine loves food. It’s starting to show those brick-red edges and deeper notes that make Franc ageable and special.

Pair it with lamb, steak, or anything with a bit of char and fat.

Recap: Why These Wines?

When I was putting together the April subscription, I wanted to pick wines that show just how much a little time can do. These are wines that have been quietly developing-either in bottle, in the vineyard, or in the background of MW Cellars since day one-and now they’re ready to speak for themselves.

The 2024 Pinot Noir is straight from my folks’ vineyard on Lakeshore Road. It’s unfiltered, a little wild, and exactly the kind of wine I love making-Niagara through and through, with just enough edge to keep it interesting.

The 2022 Viognier has had a couple of years to mellow out and get comfortable. It’s floral, textured, and showing a totally different side of the grape than what you’ll see in the 2024 release coming this summer. That contrast is what makes it fun.

And the 2019 Cabernet Franc? That’s a throwback. One of our first wines, made in a cooler vintage, with a label we probably shouldn’t talk about too loudly (but I still love). It’s aging beautifully, full of spice, structure, and everything I hope for when we put a wine away to see what happens.

Each bottle in this box has a bit of history behind it and I’m pumped for you to taste where we’ve been, and where we’re going.

MUMS & MOMS - The Shed is coming back for year two!

This is our official season opener, and we’re making it a good one. Free flowers from Seaway Farms, good wine, good people, and a chance to ease into spring with the folks who raised us-or whoever kept us fed and grounded along the way.

Bring your mom. Bring yourself. Bring someone who deserves flowers (and a glass).

We’ll be pouring, hanging out, and kicking things off properly.
