Fresh Wines, First Tastes & A Little Parisian Inspiration

Hey Wine Lovers,

Marty is back from Paris and is jumping straight into bottling season!

After spending five days at Wine Paris Expo, tasting over 300 wines, and talking shop with winemakers who have been at it for generations, Marty has been getting a serious dose of inspiration for what’s next.

The depth of tradition over there is wild. It’s made him think a lot about how we balance old-school techniques with the more experimental stuff we love doing at MW.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s talk about what’s actually happening right now—because we’ve got some fresh wines coming, an exclusive first taste for our subscribers, and a couple of great events lined up.

🍇 Bottling Up Freshness

• Pinot Grigio – Bright, clean, and crisp. A classic done right.
  
  
• Sauvignon Blanc – Crisp, citrusy, and bursting with the fresh character we love in this grape.
  
  
• Syrah Rosé – From our Lakeshore Road vineyard, full of wild strawberries, grapefruit, and just a little spice.
  
  
• Raw Bar White – A collab with our friends at Tide & Vine—a blend of Viognier, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon Blanc made for oysters, seafood, and good times.

This Raw Bar White is something we’ve been working on for a while. Mike, Kat (owners of Tide & Vine), and Marty have been making wine together for over a decade, and this blend is all about bringing Niagara’s food and wine culture together.

It won’t be out until a little later this year, but our subscribers will get a first taste when the time comes.

🏆 MW Sémillon’s Big Moment at the Culinary Championship

Last month, our 2023 MW Sémillon was the Mystery Wine at the Canadian Culinary Championship—which means 400 guests, including Canada’s best chefs, tasted it blind and built their dishes around it.

The result? Chef Lizardo Becerra from Raphaël Peruvian Cuisine in Ottawa took home People’s Choice with a dish that nailed the wine’s citrus and herbal notes: Beet-cured Hokkaido scallop crudo, citrus Grana Padano foam, spiced cucumber, charred basil nuts, and lemongrass plantain.

It’s always interesting to see what chefs create when they don’t know what they’re working with.

This was a huge moment for MW Cellars, and we’re already thinking about what’s next.

No fluff, no gimmicks—just great wine, made for people who love to drink it.
