What November Looks Like at MW 🍷

Hey Everyone,

Harvest might be coming to a close, but the work definitely isn’t.

The weather’s turned cool and wet, the vines are slowing down, and the cellar smells like fermenting fruit and coffee.

It’s that in-between season where one part of the winery winds down while the other hits its stride.

🌿 In the Vineyard: Where the season begins to slow

Leaves have mostly dropped now, and the vineyards are quiet except for the odd flock of geese passing over. The vines are shutting down, but the soil’s still alive with energy, storing everything it needs for next spring.

This year taught us a lot.

For the third fall in a row, everything ripened at once: sparkling, whites, reds, all ready within days. It’s not the traditional order, and it’s a clear reminder that Niagara’s climate is changing.

Still, what came in was remarkable: concentrated, powerful fruit with a natural sense of balance. Eden’s calling it “the year of no adds.” No sugar, no acid, no adjustments - just pure, expressive fruit.

And none of that happens without the people behind the vines.

A huge thank-you to the Buis and Oppenlander families for their incredible work with our white grapes this year.

Timing is everything, and they nailed it.

🍷 In the Cellar: The Energy is Electric

Fermentation is when the cellar comes alive! The tanks are humming, the air’s full of CO₂ and fresh fruit, and Marty’s doing what he does best: tasting, adjusting, and trusting his instincts.

This time of year is all about restraint.

Cooler ferments, gentle pressing, and letting each wine find its own voice. The goal hasn’t changed: let the wine speak for itself.

If you ask Marty where his biggest and best ideas come from, he'll tell you it's usually on his back porch talking with farmers, figuring out what the fruit’s trying to say. That’s where it starts!
